The American Sprint Car Series (ASCS) is a budget minded series with the cars running 360ci, steel block engines with spec Brodix heads. Beginning in 1992, the series begins at Texas' Devil's Bowl Speedway and then travels through Oklahoma, Arizona, Illinois, Tennessee, Kansas, Missouri, Indiana, South Dakota, Oregon and Washington.
In addition to the season opener at Devil's Bay Speedway, other major events in the 2009 schedule include the $10,000-to-win ASCS Knoxville Nationals on July 31 to August 2 and I-30 Speedway's 22nd Annual Short Track Nationals on October 29-31, an event that pays $15,000 to win.
A highlight of the 2009 season is Speedweek, which consists of six nights of racing at six different tracks from June 5-13. Speedweek kicks off at 67 Speedway (AR), and then moves onto Little Rock's I-30 Speedway, Creek County Speedway (OK), Devil's Bowl Speedway (TX), State Fair Speedway (OK), with the final event at Lawton Speedway (OK).
The first champion of the series was Garry Lee Maier, since then Terry Gray has won the series 4 times (1995-1998), Gary Wright 4 times (2004-2007), and Tim Crawley 3 times (1994, 1999, 2002).
As well as the American Sprint Car Nationl Series the ASCS sanction Sprint Car Racing events across the country. Broken up into regions, the series sanctions around 224 nights of racing at approximately 100 different speedways throughout the US and Canada. The ASCS regions are: Canyon, Gulf South, Lone Star, Midwest, Northern Plains, Northwest, Patriot, Rebel, Rocky Mountain, Sooner, Southwest, Sprints on Dirt, Sprint Bandits.
